This extraordinary horseback journey takes you deep into the heart of the Darkhad Depression, one of Mongolia’s most mysterious and sacred regions. Riding the legendary Darkhad white horse, you will cross pristine taiga, sacred rivers, and high mountain passes that few outsiders have ever witnessed.

The tour begins with a flight to Murun, followed by a drive into Bayanzurkh, where the spiritual gateway to the Darkhad Depression lies. From there, you embark on horseback travelling 25–30 km each day in harmony with the land and the rhythm of nomadic life. Along the way, you will visit sacred ovoos, meet nomadic Darkhad families, and witness authentic shamanic ceremonies performed in their ancestral homeland.

This is not just a horseback adventure. It is a cultural and spiritual pilgrimage into Mongolia’s shamanic heartland.

Day 1Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

  • Meet and greet at the airport by your guide and driver.

Day 2Flight to Murun (533 km / 1h 10 min) - Bayanzurkh (127 km by car)

  • Domestic flight to Murun, capital of Khuvsgul province.
  • Drive to Bayanzurkh soum, reach Agariin Gurvan Khairkhan.
  • A Darkhad shaman performs a ritual marking entry into the sacred Darkhad Depression.
  • Overnight in camp.

Day 3Bayanzurkh - Uliin Khaltzan Pass – 13 Ovoo (25-30km on horseback)

  • Begin horseback riding on Darkhad white horses.
  • Ascend to Uliin Khaltzan Pass.
  • Shamanic ritual at 13 Ovoo.
  • Overnight in tented camp.

Day 4Uliin 13 Ovoo - Gateway to Ergene Khun (10-15km on horseback)

  • Reach the legendary entry point into the Darkhad Depression.
  • Participate in ovoo ritual and cultural ceremony.
  • Overnight in camp.

Day 5Uliin Pass - Ulaan Taiga, Nerstei Taiga’s Khashiin Durulzh (25–30 km on horseback)

  • Horseback ride through pristine taiga landscapes.
  • Observe participate in a shamanic ceremony.
  • Overnight in tented camp.

Day 6Khashiin Durulzh - Jargant River mid-valley (25 km on horseback)

  • Begin trek toward Renchinlkhümbe.
  • Overnight at a riverside camp by the Jargant River, known for its scenic beauty and abundant natural resources

Day 7Jargant River mid-valley - Renchinlkhümbe (25 km on horseback)

  • Continue along the Jargant River to reach Renchinlkhümbe soum.
  • Experience the local nomadic lifestyle.
  • Overnight in tent/herder’s camp.

Day 8Renchinlkhümbe - Ongonii 13 Ovoo – Zuslan River (25 km on horseback)

  • Visit local Darkhad families.
  • Ritual at Ongonii 13 Ovoo.
  • Overnight in herder’s camp.

Day 9Zuslan River - Ar-Tuj Pasture – Jarin River (25 km on horseback)

  • Trek deeper into Darkhad Depression.
  • Camp near the Jarin River source.
  • Overnight in tent.

Day 10Jarin River - Khoridol Saridag Foothills (25–30 km horseback)

  • Ride from Jarin River valley toward the Khoridog Saridag mountain range.
  • Camp overnight at the foothills of the sacred mountains.
  • Overnight in tented camp.

Day 11Khoridol Saridag - Burenkhaan Mountain - Northern Lake Khuvsgul (25–30 km on horseback)

  • Continue across the high passes into Khankh soum.
  • Witness the majestic peaks of Munkh Saridag and Burenkhaan.
  • Arrive at the northern shore of Lake Khuvsgul.
  • Overnight at lakeside camp.

Day 12Bayan Mountain – Shamanic Fire Ceremony (30 km on horseback)

  • Participate in the sacred fire-offering ceremony at Bayan Mountain.
  • Overnight in tented camp.

Day 13Khatgal - Murun (110 km by car) - Flight to Ulaanbaatar (533 km / 1h 10 min)

  • Transfer to Murun.
  • Flight back to Ulaanbaatar.
  • Farewell dinner.
  • Overnight in Ulaanbaatar. (hotel)

Day 14Departure from Ulaanbaatar
