Mongolia has a territory of 1.5 million km². About 8% of this vast land is forest, while the rest consists of steppe, semi-desert, and Gobi zones.
Our tour takes you freely and securely across the steppe and into the vast Gobi Desert region, home to 33 uniquely named gobis. You’ll leave with memories to last a lifetime.
On this day, we welcome all guests. Introductions will be held, and we will take you to a tourist camp in the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar to rest. After breakfast at the hotel, the tour will begin.
We depart from Ulaanbaatar and travel to our first overnight stop in Bayanjargalan soum of Dundgovi Province, a natural protected area. Our first day brings us to the northeastern edge of the Mongolian Gobi.
We’ll travel to Khamar Monastery, a historical site and spiritual energy center located in Dornogovi Province. Many domestic and foreign tourists visit this powerful place to recharge.
We will start early to travel through the strictly protected Great Gobi region. As we drive through the vast, hot desert and encounter wild khulan (wild asses), we’ll reach the Galba Gobi of Khanbogd soum in Ömnögovi Province, known for having the most camels among Mongolia’s 33 gobi’s. We’ll overnight at Demchig Choilin Monastery, a global energy center.
Today we pass through the center of Umnugovi Province, Dalanzadgad, and head to Yolyn Am in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountains, known for its cool, clear glacier in the middle of the desert.
We reach the famous Khongoryn Els sand dunes and rest among the dunes overnight.
We cross the Khongor dunes and head toward Bayangobi, one of the richest of the 33 gobis. Crossing the dunes will be one of the more challenging parts of the tour.
A large portion of the Mongolian Gobi lies south of the Altai Mountains. We’ll camp on the northern side of the Altai range before crossing to the southern slopes. We’ll reach the Shaakhar Tolgoi River source, behind the Emelzgii range, a place rich in ancient petroglyphs.
We reach Bayan Tooroi and Eelzh Uul, geological remnants from the Permian period, created after the Gobi’s volcanic eruptions. You’ll see the largest stone formations of Mongolia’s gobis.
We travel from the southern to the northern side of the Altai Gobi. This is the longest travel day. We’ll drive through rugged terrain for hundreds of kilometers, arriving in the Sharga Gobi late at night. Along the way, we may encounter wild camels (havtgai).
After a good rest, we cross Sharga Gobi and arrive at Ikh Mongol Els. Unlike previous stops, this place combines large sand dunes and rivers. It’s a rest day on the tour.
Our tour enters the Hangai-Gobi transition zone. With beautiful scenery and freshwater lakes, this part of the Gobi is like nowhere else on earth.
We travel to the next scenic site in the Tosontsengel soum of Zavkhan Province to rest at a tourist camp along the Khoshuul River.
We head to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, one of the most scenic lakes in the Khangai Mountains, and camp overnight.
We visit the ancient capital Kharkhorin in the Orkhon Valley and stay near the Orkhon River and the monuments of Khar Balgas. This will be our final group night with a tour closing event.
The tour ends.
